Finally, after several months of the official announcement from Nintendo and Xbox, GoldenEye 007 arrives on both consoles January 27!

GoldenEye 007 Details

The game releases on both Nintendo Switch Online and Xbox Game Pass on January 27. Yep, in two days. I’m not surprised by the sudden release because Nintendo loves to drop games suddenly without big fanfare.

However, there is a major difference between the two editions. The game releasing on Nintendo Switch Online will have online multiplayer; the Xbox Game Pass edition only has local multiplayer. Also, the Xbox Game Pass edition has additional features “including alternative control options, achievements to unlock and native 16:9 resolution up to 4K Ultra HD (where supported).” Finally, Xbox owners who “own a digital copy of Rare Replay, the 30-game compilation of Rare games made to celebrate the studio’s 30th anniversary, will be able to download and enjoy the game free of charge.”

As for the enhancements for the Nintendo Switch players now have widescreen enabled and online multiplayer, as stated before. Players can’t buy the game outright but will have to purchase the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack to play it. That’s because it’s part of the N64 game lineup that’s only available on the Expansion Pack.

The cost of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is $49.99 a year. However, if a player already has a subscription to the Nintendo Switch Online then that player only has to pay a prorated amount. That amount depends on the length of the subscription left. Players can sign in and check to see how much the prorated amount will be.

I will be upgrading my subscription to play this game and other N64 titles. So, in a sense, I’m paying $49.99 each year to play the updated GoldenEye 64. And Xbox Game Pass subscribers pay anywhere from $9.99 to $14.99 a month to play the game.
