Radeon RX 7900 Series Looks Awesome!

Radeon RX 7900 Series features two new GPUs with 24GB and 20GB of GDDR6 memory retailing under $1000!

Today during “AMD Presents: together we advance_gaming” livestream on YouTube the company releases their new GPU: Radeon RX 7900 Series. And it looks awesome!

In full disclosure, I am an AMD fan. Not only do I own AMD stock, but my gaming PC has a AMD Ryzen 5 5600X CPU and a XFX Speedster SWFT 210 Radeon RX 6600 GPU. However, I’m going to be objective in this article because that’s the right thing to do.

Details About The Radeon RX 7900 Series

Let’s get the details about the newest GPU series out there because that’s what gamers want to know:

The Radeon RX 7900 series has two versions to choose from:

  • RX 7900 XT
  • RX 7900 XTX

The XTX version the more powerful of the two.

Memory Size

The RX 7900 XT has 20GB of GDDR6 memory, while the XTX version has 24GB.

You can purchase the XT version for $899 USD or the XTX model for $999.

Release Date

The GPUs release on December 13, 2022. Just in time for Santa to bring you one for Christmas. (Probably. Santa may run into shipping delays. Or the North Pole may not have enough video cards in stock to give everyone on the Nice list who wants one.)

Radeon RX 7900 Series Pros

There are several pros to the new GPU which makes it awesome.

First, this is the first GPU to feature chiplet technology. AMD spent a considerable amount of time during their presentation discussing their advancements with chiplets. Frankly, some of it went above my head. And there was quite of few numbers floating about.

The second pro is this GPU series uses DisplayPort 2.1. The newest release GeForce RTX 40 series GPUs don’t use that port version.

The third pro (and quite a major one in my opinion) is the easy upgrade from the Radeon RX 6000 series. Gamers can use the same PSU and its cables unlike the GeForce RTX 40 series (which requires a power adapter).

Will I Upgrade?

So will I upgrade to the RX 7900 series come next month? No, I will not. The reason being because I built my gaming PC in June 2022 and I’m happy with its performance. Plus, I spent a nice bit of cash building it. Although the RX 7900 series’ pricing is much more affordable than the GeForce RTX 40 series I rather not spend at least $900 on a GPU. Especially how the economy is at the moment.
