The Witcher 3 Finally Gets Its Next-Gen Update

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt finally gets its long-awaited next-gen update on December 14. And it's free for those who own the previous edition.

This is fantastic news for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt fans: The game finally gets its next-gen update! Yep, the update, which is free, releases on December 14th for PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC.

What’s In The Next-Gen Update?

According to this article on the game’s website the next-gen update includes “dozens of visual, performance and technical enhancements, including ray tracing support, faster loading times on consoles, a variety of mods integrated into the experience, and much more!”

In addition to those new features, players get a new set of DLCs inspired by The Witcher’s Netflix series. That set will include new weapons and clothes for Geralt, along with different looks for the other characters in the game.

I think this is a great bonus to this free update because it’s convinces more owners of the The Witcher 3 to replay it again. Plus, it shows the game’s developer didn’t just update the graphics and overall performance for next-gen systems. They actually made new gameplay improvements. What interests me in the update is the new costumes Geralt and the other characters can wear. Yet, I’m more excited about the new weapons he can wield.

However, if a gamer doesn’t own the previous edition of the game and wants to get this update The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition will be available digitally for the PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC on December 14th. A physical disc edition will release later.

The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Update For Older Consoles

For those who do not own a next-gen console, you will get new features too. The PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch owners will get “an update featuring numerous additions and improvements, as well as the Netflix Witcher-themed DLCs.” When this update will be available is not known. The developer will release that information later. That is unfortunate but I understand why the developer made that decision. Those systems are older and require additional work to make sure all the improvements work.
